LINGO - Short Message Service
SMS is the ability to Send and Receive Text Messages from your mobile phones; text comprising words or numbers or an alphanumeric combination. It is a Store and Forward Service, messages are not sent directly from Sender to Recipient, but via an SMS Center.
Therefore the customer is not required to have their mobile phone active and within range, as the sent messages will be held for a number of days until the phone is active and within range. With the SMS feature of Confirmation of Message Delivery, users do not just send a message and hope it gets delivered, but they receive confirmation of delivery on their handset. So the Sender can rest easy.

On a TDMA mobile network, an SMS message can be from 110 - 160 characters long, depending on the handset.
If one sends or receives a message longer than what his/her handset can facilitate, the message would be reduced to blocks of 150 characters, the maximum size of characters as their handset.
Sometimes parts of the message might be lost, because of the limited length of messages. It is advisable to know some abbreviations when sending messages. Alternatively users could invent their own codes to use among friends.
SMS is network-enabled service, so nothing has to be done on the handset. The customer however has to request the removal of the service by coming into one of TSTT's Mobile Retail Stores or calling TSTT Call Center.
There would be no Roaming with Lingo at this time.
A message reaches its destination almost instantaneously. Instances where this may not occur are if the mobile is switched off or if the mobile user is out of a service area.
This service would be available at TSTT's Mobile Stores, Customers Service Centers and Mobile Corporate Office. Customers would also be able to request service through the Mobile Call Centre The telephone number is 824-TSTT.
