“Going green, giving hope. TSTT, Guardian Holdings dragon boaters partner on recycling/charity drive

Trinidad - In dragon boating most of the action takes place in the water but members of the Guardian Holding Ltd (GHL) dragon boat team “Oarstruck” are doing lots of good work on land thanks to a TSTT recycling initiative. The team is using the proceeds of the telecommunication firm’s telephone directory drive to support youth-focused charity, the Credo Foundation for Justice.

2011 marks the second year that TSTT has hosted its directory recycling drive through which the company encourages and assists the public in returning past directories to the company for recycling. This year the company has expanded the programme, launched in January, by adding special incentives to encourage organisations to return the directories. TSTT is giving a dollar per directory returned by companies for them to donate to their chosen charitable organisation. “We are doing this to ensure that TSTT minimises the long term impacts of waste paper from directories after their useful life has expired,” explains Lyndon Gordon, TSTT’s Manager of Directory Publications. “It also enables TSTT to make a wider positive impact on the environment by contributing to the availability of used paper stock for recycling.”

Maria Rivas-Mc Millan, GHL’s Group Vice President of Public Relations, explains that although this is the second year the company will be involved in the TSTT initiative, Oarstruck team members are the ones responsible for the current recycling drive:

“GHL has for over 20 years been involved in environmental conservation,” she said. “More recently we launched our ‘Project Green’ to educate employees on the value of recycling and our Guardian Initiative for Transformation (GIFT) which encourages them to support communities through employee volunteerism.
