In the dynamic global business world of today where applications developed for smartphones and mobile solutions have been creatively adding value to businesses it has become critical for organisations and developers in the Caribbean to apply these new age business methods in order be on par with their international counterparts. In an effort to assist businesses in this area Caribbean Ideas with the support of blink | bmobile hosted MobiWorld Caribbean 2012 on October 25th at Hilton Trinidad.

MobiWorld Caribbean was borne from the Caribbean Digital Expo - a series of events aimed at stimulating dialogue on the ways that Caribbean organisations and people use digital technology to drive results and create personal opportunity. MobiWorld Caribbean evolved out of the premise that in the future mobile will be the dominant medium through which people access the internet and consume digital media. Echoing this belief is a recent Cisco study which stated “that looking ahead through to 2016 - Global mobile data traffic will increase 18-fold between 2011 and 2016. By the end of 2012, the number of mobile-connected devices will exceed the number of people on earth, and by 2016 there will be 1.4 mobile devices per capita”.

According to Chike Farrell, Co Founder and CEO of Caribbean Ideas “Global businesses are successfully applying mobile technology in their operations to deliver services, sell and more. It is time that the Caribbean businesses start creating examples of our own. I believe there needs to be a different level of dialogue about digital marketing and digital business issues impacting the Caribbean world at large and this is what events like MobiWorld Caribbean seek to accomplish”.

The event featured international experts who provided insight on the opportunities mobile presents to their respective brands and businesses. Joe Lalley - Vice President, Digital Products at Viacom, who is responsible for managing the mobile web, messaging and ringtone businesses across MTV Networks, including brands such as MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, and Nick etc  and Andy Chu -Divisional Vice President of Mobile and Community Experiences at Sears Holdings were two of the highlight contributors at the Conference.
