Some people make for inspiring stories and Selwyn Campbell’s is as good as any.
Last year, Campbell and his wife decided to get their US visas in the hope of visiting his older brother who he has not seen in over 20 years but money was tight and his plan did not pan out. An avid believer in God, Campbell said he prayed about the situation and asked God to work things out.

Fast forward to a year later and Campbell and his wife will soon make that long awaited trip to New York City to see his brother. His twist of fate started with a phone call from bmobile on Old Year’s Day at about 1pm. Campbell, a bmobile customer for 14 years, was informed that he was the 13th winner of the of the $100,000 bmobile’s You Get More Top Up Sweepstakes Promotion.

“I was overjoyed and overwhelmed to the second power when I got the news,” he stated, smiling. “Now I can finally take my vacation and go see my brother. It will be the first time my wife and I will be travelling outside of T&T. God lined up everything just in time.”

Campbell, the owner of the Tunapuna-based Campbell’s Variety Store, says he believes in the old adage, “give and it will come back to you.” Three weeks ago, Campbell says he gave a colleague $1,000 to pay a parking ticket. Although the act of kindness was “out of the goodness of my heart,” Campbell says no good deed goes unnoticed by God.

“I just gave him the money and told him Merry Christmas because I know how hard things can be. Look how I got it back from God and so much more,” he said.

“Things come back to you. You have to give to receive.” The married father of four who turns 48 on January 13, says he couldn’t ask for a better birthday present. “I got Birthday, Christmas and New Year’s gift all in one.”

Noting that he remains thankful to bmobile for the opportunity to win the unexpected money, the Arima resident also offered some advice to those who may have lost faith in themselves and God.

“You have to trust God and don’t forget to give; when you give you will receive. It’s also important to give God what he deserves. I tithe every month that is top priority. No matter how hard things get. I always give to God first,” he said.
