Bmobile puts Habitat for Humanity back on the road

Port of Spain, Trinidad - The local chapter of global, nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization, Habitat for Humanity recently received a major endowment from Bmobile in the form of two vehicles.

Habitat for Humanity Trinidad and Tobago (HFHTT) which celebrated its 14th anniversary on March 14th, 2011 is an NGO that serves the housing needs of families with very low-incomes. It seeks to eliminate substandard housing and homelessness and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, HFHTT partners with families in need to build and rehabilitate simple, decent houses.

Bmobile’s donation came at just the right moment because the HFHTT’s only vehicle had earlier this year been wrecked in an accident involving a negligent truck driver. The organization was finding it difficult to manage its nationwide social housing construction program without any form of mobility. During the recent handover of the vehicles in Sangre Grande, Jennifer Massiah, National Director of HFHTT expressed her heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Bmobile for its continued support for her organization over the years.

“We applaud the commitment and concern that Bmobile as a corporate entity has continued to demonstrate in its support of the sterling work of our NGO, so that the poorer classes in society can find hope. Truly they are trendsetters connecting and linking people”.

She further shared, “This donation makes a tremendous difference as the vehicles will aid the project management of our construction sites. These are spread across the country including Sangre Grande, Point Fortin, Chaguanas and Rio Claro. We also have monthly community mobilization sessions. These meeting seek to help the people of the community make their homes more secure to deal with potential natural disasters. It encourages safer building habits under our Disaster Mitigation program among other community capacity activities”.
