It was truly all about the children as the blink | bmobile Foundation joined hands with CNMG/Sweet100.1FM as a Gold Sponsor of the The Gathering Charity Concert, which took place on Sunday 7 December, 2014 at the car park of the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The event, now in its 8th year, was organised by the Caribbean New Media Group and is a staple on the Sweet 100.1FM Christmas calendar. It is aimed at collecting food stuff and toys for less-fortunate families, while providing a festive atmosphere and premium entertainment - free to all.

Naresha Ali, blink | bmobile Manager, Mobile Marketing, who was on hand at The Gathering to assist with the exciting give-aways, said that the blink | bmobile Foundation was proud to support this community service event.

"When Sweet100.1FM met with us and told us about The Gathering and what it was about, we knew immediately the blink | bmobile Foundation wanted to be a part of this," Ali said. "The Gathering is truly in alignment with what blink | bmobile is about: celebrating culture, family and youth!"

She continued: "This is our first year being part of The Gathering, but it certainly won't be our last."

For the past 10 years, the blink | bmobile Foundation has donated both money and manhours from volunteer employees to help non-profit organisations strengthen the T&T community and improve the lives of those in need. Some of its work, specifically geared towards children, has included book drives and education programmes on childhood diabetes. Each year, it continues to donate non-perishable items and toys to all the Children's Homes across Trinidad and Tobago with which it is associated. The Foundation also participated earlier this year in the famous global Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness of not only ALS, but also of the local Down Syndrome Family Network.

Several TSTT employees worked at The Gathering, collecting the foodstuff and toys from patrons on entry and packaging them in boxes for distribution.

Joel Latiff of TSTT's Operator Services and Contact Centre has been one of the blink | bmobile Foundation volunteers from its inception and found that assisting in the The Gathering's collection drive was a fun way to contribute to an important cause.

"I am so glad to be part of this event as it brings the people of T&T together; it brings the people of TSTT together, and our part as blink | bmobile is always to give back to our communities and our country," Latiff said. "As an employee at blink | bmobile, I feel it is important to give support to those in our communities who are most in need."

Another volunteer, Kimoi Soo-Hong of TSTT Access Plant Engineering and Administration department, said it was an excellent team-building exercise and was pleased to be part of a drive to assist children in need: "We want to put a smile on the children's faces," Soo-Hong said. "It's easy to think of ourselves at Christmas time, but this helps us to remember to think of others. It's about serving with excellence for the children and the families!"

Certainly the toy collection would put smiles on children's faces, but so too did the blink | bmobile booth, which proved a huge attraction with the kids as they lined up for the entire evening to play the Xbox Dance-off. However, blink | bmobile also catered to the adults who were able to top-up at the booth for a chance to win a Plum tablet as part of the company's Merry Money Christmas promotion.

Ali recognised the enthusiastic engagement of the employees and was proud of their ongoing volunteerism that drove the Foundation's work.

She said that especially as the company was set to celebrate 25 years in 2015 as T&T's telecommunications provider; it would continue its thrust to give back to this country and the people who have supported TSTT over the years.
