bmobile Stands with Jamaica: Launches Regional Relief Drive After Hurricane Melissa

TST Corporate Communications

Friday, 14 November 2025

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa’s passage across Jamaica, bmobile has reaffirmed its dedication to the Caribbean community by launching a Jamaica Relief Support Drive to offer tangible support to those most affected.

Recognizing that rebuilding requires both communication and compassion, bmobile has partnered with United Way Trinidad and Tobago (UWTT) to launch a Text-to-Donate campaign. Customers can contribute directly to relief efforts by texting the word “Donate” to designated short codes, with donation amounts ranging from $5 to $20. In an added gesture of solidarity, bmobile will match every dollar donated, doubling the impact of each contribution.

Through their initiative, bmobile postpaid and prepaid customers can make free calls to Jamaica—up to 30 minutes per day until November 30. This ensures that families can stay in touch and share important updates during this critical period. For mobile customers currently in Jamaica, bmobile has also introduced 200 free roaming minutes, which can be used for calls within Jamaica and back home, helping those on the ground remain connected as recovery efforts continue.

Speaking on the company’s support for Jamaica, Sherise Boodoo, Chief Marketing Officer (Ag.) of TSTT, said the decision to act came naturally to the team. “At bmobile, we have always been ready and willing to assist our regional brothers and sisters, especially in moments like these. Through this Relief Support Drive, we hope to bring comfort, connection, and a sense of solidarity to those facing the difficult road ahead.”
Within the company, staff members have also been mobilized to help. A donation drive is underway across all staff locations to collect non-perishable food items and toiletries. Employees also have the option to contribute to the initiative through salary deductions.

These relief efforts are being carried out in collaboration with UWTT and the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, ensuring that all donations are managed transparently and reach those who need them most. bmobile is also working with regional telecom partners and local utilities in Jamaica to support the restoration of telecommunications services in affected areas.

Hurricane Melissa, one of the most destructive storms to strike the northern Caribbean in recent years, left widespread damage across Jamaica—displacing families, disrupting essential services, and leaving many without the means to reach their loved ones.

Boodoo concluded that bmobile’s response reflects the company’s belief that connection goes beyond technology. “It is about empathy, community, and the enduring strength of the Caribbean spirit.”
