Trinidad and Tobago’s rising track and field athletes will receive an early competitive advantage heading into the 2026 season when bmobile and world javelin champion Keshorn Walcott power the second edition of the Golden League Athletics.
Set to sprint off at the Eddie Hart Grounds in Tacarigua on January 4, 2026, the five-stage league is strategically positioned during the off-season, offering athletes a structured platform to assess form, track progress, and remain competition-ready ahead of upcoming regional and international championships.
By filling a traditional gap in the local athletics calendar, the Golden League provides consistent, high-quality competition at a time when athletes are building toward peak conditions. This approach has become increasingly important amid reduced competitive opportunities across the region.
Now entering its second year, the Golden League Athletics is an initiative spearheaded by world javelin champion Keshorn Walcott and supported by bmobile as part of its long-standing brand ambassador partnership with the Olympic medalist, which dates back to 2012. The collaboration reflects a shared focus on structured athlete development and expanding competitive opportunities for Trinidad and Tobago’s track and field community.
Sherise Boodoo, Chief Marketing Officer (Ag.) at bmobile, said the company’s support for the Golden League Athletics reflects its commitment to backing athlete-led initiatives that deliver long-term value.
“Keshorn has consistently demonstrated leadership beyond competition, and the Golden League Athletics is a clear example of his commitment to developing the next generation,” Boodoo said. “As his long-standing brand partner, bmobile is proud to support an initiative that provides young athletes with meaningful opportunities to compete, grow, and gain confidence at a critical stage of their development.”
The 2026 league will span multiple communities, with meets scheduled for Shaw Park in Tobago on January 18, Toco Secondary Grounds on January 31, Mahaica Sporting Complex in Point Fortin on February 14, and a night-time finale at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex on March 14.
All domestic track and field clubs have been invited to participate as athletes prepare for the 2026 CARIFTA Games in Grenada from April 4 to 6.
Beyond competition, Keshorn is focused on enhancing the athlete’s experience by creating a dynamic and community-driven environment. Following an average turnout of approximately 350 athletes during the inaugural 2024/2025 edition, the second stage aims to increase participation while maintaining competitive standards.
The multi-leg format allows coaches and athletes to monitor progression across venues, providing realistic performance benchmarks and identifying areas for improvement as the season unfolds.
Keshorn Walcott, who was appointed Sports Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago in September 2025, said that giving young athletes the opportunity to compete regularly across different surfaces and venues offers added developmental benefits.
“I’m happy for the continued support from bmobile,” Walcott said. “They see the vision, they see it’s a great development initiative for the youths. And the youths really need it as it’s off-season competition. Kudos to bmobile for believing in me and for investing in times when athletes need it the most.”
Reflecting on the inaugural edition, Walcott said feedback from athletes, coaches, and supporters was overwhelmingly positive, particularly the opportunity to compete in different communities.
“A lot of people were happy being able to compete in front of their parents in their own town, in front of their neighbors, friends and family. All those little things make a difference with your confidence and how you go about competing, because obviously when people are there, you want to do as best as possible,” he said.
With its expanded footprint and renewed focus on early-season development, the second edition of Golden League Athletics is set to further strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s track and field ecosystem while reinforcing bmobile’s role as a consistent supporter of sport and youth development.
