bmobile has come in for high praise from Tennis Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TennisTT) President Hayden Mitchell for their longstanding support towards helping nurture and develop the next generation of sportsmen and women.
The nation’s premier communications solutions provider was integral in assisting TennisTT’s hosting of the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) Davis Cup Americas Group IV Tournament which was held at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua from July 22-27. Additionally, they have also extended support to the ITF’s Billie Jean King Cup Americas Group III tourney, which serves off at the same venue from August 5-10.
bmobile is a long-established advocate of youth development through sport and shares strong ties with multiple national sporting bodies, community groups and other organisations which contribute to building the nation’s future leaders.
Both tournaments are recognised internationally as the “World Cup of Tennis” for men (Davis Cup) and women (Billie Jean).
Mitchell said bmobile’s support has been “critical” for Trinidad and Tobago’s hosting of over ten nations across the three-week period.
Darryl Duke, who heads bmobile Business, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to overall youth development through sport, and was pleased to welcome over ten countries to Trinidad’s shores for intense and exciting competition.
“At bmobile, we continue to invest in our young people because they are the future leaders of our nation. Through sport, culture, education and the arts, we remain actively involved in creating better all-round citizens,” Duke stated.
The National Racquet Centre played, and plays host to athletes from Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, St Lucia, US Virgin Islands and Trinidad and Tobago, across the two tournaments.
Duke added, “Our support of these two competitions also allows players from other Caribbean countries a chance to showcase their talent, win trophies and patriotically compete, thus inspiring these youngsters to set goals and work towards them.”
At the Davis Cup Americas Group IV, the two finalists - Aruba and Nicaragua - were promoted to the Americas Group III. Aruba defeated Nicaragua 2-0 in the final to take top honours while Honduras bettered Cuba 2-1 in the third-place playoff.
Antigua and Barbuda, US Virgin Islands, Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago rounded off fifth to eighth place respectively.
The TennisTT President also added that bmobile’s support for tennis aligns with the association’s aim to have the state-of-the-art Racquet Centre serve as a regional hub for tennis players throughout the Caribbean.
“The government alone cannot do it (lend support) and you need partners like bmobile and businesses to come and support the NGBs and athletes to reach their goals,” he said.
“You want them at the development stage, not only when they win gold or make a podium place but for them to reach there, you need the support at the base or grassroots level. Because it’s a process to reach that elite level. bmobile has certainly helped and supported us along the journey,” Mitchell concluded.
The Billie Jean King Cup serves off from August 5-10 from 10am daily. Admission is free.
