bmobile Powers Culture: Carvalho Productions Drives Creativity from Stage to Mas

TSTT Corporate Communications

With the carnival season behind us, bmobile has once again demonstrated its commitment and long-term investment in Trinidad and Tobago’s creative sector. Through partnerships with artists, cultural organizations, and national events, the company plays an active role in supporting initiatives that preserve heritage, create opportunities for young talent, and foster the creative economy.

One of the key figures driving local culture is Fareid Carvalho, an award-winning designer, four-time King of Carnival, theatre director, and entrepreneur. With over two decades of experience, Carvalho has successfully blended storytelling, movement, and design to create immersive artistic experiences. His work through theatre productions, school outreach programs, and Carnival mas bands has engaged thousands of young people, introducing them to performing arts and traditional craftsmanship.

bmobile has supported Carvalho from the early stages of his career. “I’ve worked with bmobile since I was in upper six. They believed in my vision early on and provided opportunities that helped me develop as an artist,” Carvalho shared. Today, he focuses on theatre and mas, mentoring the next generation of performers and designers.

This year, Carvalho launched My Magical Garden, a new kiddies’ Carnival band designed to teach young masqueraders about the art of mas while introducing them to design and craftsmanship. His work highlights the need for consistent support for the arts—not just during Carnival but throughout the year.

bmobile’s investment in the creative sector goes beyond financial sponsorship. The company ensures that local artistes receive the exposure and resources needed to sustain their craft. For example, bmobile has supported major cultural events like the National Carnival Commission (NCC), creating platforms for artists to showcase their talents on national stages.

“Our cultural sector plays a critical role in national development,” said Anjanie Ramesar-Soom, of bmobile’s Corporate, Environmental, Social & Reputation Management team. “At bmobile, we’re not just sponsors. We collaborate with cultural stakeholders to provide resources, mentorship, and exposure that help creatives thrive. Our partnerships contribute to building a sustainable creative economy, which sustains traditions and strengthens national identity.”

Carvalho echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young talent. “Mas and theatre will always be part of my journey. With the right support, we can create more opportunities for young creatives to develop their skills and careers,” he said. Carvalho’s initiatives also infuse social and moral values, helping underserved communities access theatre beyond the traditional movie screen.

As the creative community looks to the future, bmobile remains dedicated to expanding access to artistic opportunities. The company’s ongoing support for organisations like Carvalho Productions and its involvement in cultural events signal a long-term commitment to ensuring that Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural sector continues to evolve and thrive.
