Press Release
As part of the company’s continued national response to the COVID-19 pandemic, TSTT has provided free WiFi Connectivity to the Field Hospitals set up by the Ministry of Health, to help ensure that individuals at these locations remain connected to their loved ones.
The Field Hospitals, which are temporary hospitals, were donated by the US Government with the aim of surging bed capacity. Each hospital includes a capacity for over 40-beds as well as Intensive Care and High Dependency units. The field hospitals have been deployed at the Couva site and at the Jean Pierre Complex in Port-of-Spain.
Following the announcement of the Field Hospitals’ implementation, TSTT promptly acted to provide these hospitals with the necessary WiFi connectivity equipment almost immediately. Speaking about the donation, Gerard Cooper, General Manager Shared Services at TSTT, noted that, “Our team has been closely monitoring the dire impact of COVID-19 on our nation and we understand and empathize with the stress and worry experienced by both our frontline workers and COVID-19 patients during this escalating crisis. As the national provider of telecommunications services, it was important for the organization to offer some relief in one of the most valuable commodities in these uncertain times: the ability of the individuals at the field hospitals to keep in touch with their loved ones.”
In responding to the TSTT donation, The Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health commented, “We at the MoH recognize and applaud the contribution made by TSTT to support the staff and patient experience during this global pandemic.”
A few examples of TSTT’s resource utilization since the start of the crisis include, its partnership with United Way to provide technical support the national COVID-19 call centre organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services and the provision of bmobile credit to hardworking frontline workers, just to name a few. The company has also reaffirmed its commitment to the nation to continue doing its part to implement support solutions.
Cooper concluded that, “We sincerely appreciate the continued unwavering efforts of our healthcare workers and all those who continue to selflessly stand on the front lines to support our nation’s response to COVID-19 and we urge our fellow citizens to heed the Prime Minister’s plea to comply with measures in place to protect the population and get this situation under control.”
