bmobile is proud to have once again partnered with the Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village for the commemoration of this year's African Emancipation Day celebrations. The popular village has evolved into a cornerstone of Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural landscape, offering a rich, deep dive into African education, cuisine, entertainment, clothing, and spiritual enrichment for locals and visitors alike.
This year's village, which opened to the public at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, was a success, and bmobile's support was instrumental in bringing it to life. By investing in local culture, the company believes that we can strengthen the fabric of our society, foster community pride, and build a brighter future for generations to come. “Our culture is our heritage,” said Anjanie Ramesar-Soom of bmobile’s Corporate, Environmental, Social & Reputation Management team. “Contributing to the preservation of our cultural traditions and art forms is reflective of the significance and importance of the role of culture for us at bmobile. We firmly believe that culture is the backbone of any strong community. For us, supporting the Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village is more than just a partnership; it's a commitment to our community and our shared history.”
Zakiya Uzoma - Wadada, Executive Chairperson of the Emancipation Support Committee expressed sincere gratitude for bmobile's support, stating, “bmobile has always been a very strong partner for the festival. They worked hard with us to put on really good presentations at the village and have an impressive presence throughout. We are always very appreciative that our national telecommunications company has chosen to support us,” she said, adding that, “we look forward to a continued partnership with bmobile, and we hope that it grows and strengthens even more, over time. Just having their presence at the village shows their dedication to showcasing and supporting the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.”
Despite the inclement weather, the 2024 instalment of the Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village attracted scores of eager attendees from across the country who came to witness first-hand the best of Trinbago and African culture. The event, which was abuzz with activity from its beginning to end, offered something for everyone and solidified its position as a must-attend affair on the national calendar.
