Press Release

TSTT Tobago Operations staff answered the call to help Tobago based customers who were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The team came together to provide relief assistance in an effort to ease some of their customers’ burdens by donating hampers containing food items and other basic necessities.

Dr. Ronald Walcott, TSTT’s Chief Executive Officer, commended the Tobago employees for undertaking this initiative. “The family of TSTT extends beyond our employees to include our customers and the many communities that we serve. While TSTT employees have voluntarily organized many other community relief efforts over the years, it is still very heartwarming to witness the overwhelming support provided by our Tobago staff. As an organization, we will continue to lend support and show our appreciation and gratitude to our people while ensuring that they are provided with the best technology, services and solutions."
Frances Simmons, Senior Manager Tobago Operations, explained that the TSTT Tobago staff was very eager to provide support to the company’s customers, in the midst of economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We decided to merge our resources to help as many of these families as possible through the provision of hampers,” stated Simmons.
Employees willingly supported customers who were in need of assistance in the communities that TSTT serves. A cross-company, inter-departmental team was set up to collect financial contributions from staff and to purchase the donated items. Drop off stations were also set up across the company for employees to donate items. The boxes with the food and supplies were later packed and delivered to the customers and their families during the months of June and July.
“In Tobago, our corporate culture is one of caring and support for each other and for our community, so this is not out of character for our employees. The response from staff was company-wide and immense. They were happy to be able to assist persons who were in need. At TSTT, we could always approach our staff with an initiative such as this, which is focused on giving back to our customers, and get a great response. As the main technology partner for our citizens living and working in Tobago, TSTT is happy to provide support to our customers in whatever way we can.” said Simmons.
The Tobago Operations staff led initiative complemented the efforts of the TSTT’s Trinidad based team and formed part of the company’s overall COVID-19 relief effort. Collectively, over 150 hampers were donated by TSTT employees to families who were in urgent need of assistance, including single parent households and persons who were laid off from their jobs. For the Trinidad arm of the initiative, TSTT staffers helped identify families in need based on their firsthand experience on the field. Support was also provided by the Port of Spain, Tunapuna-Piarco, San Juan-Laventille and Chaguanas Regional Corporations to optimize the structure of the Trinidad based relief effort and assist with identifying families in need of urgent assistance in these communities. At the height of the pandemic, TSTT was also among other corporate entities that partnered with NGO, Living Water Community, to support their food ministry. The company’s support made it possible for 800-900 hampers to be distributed to those negatively impacted by the pandemic.
